How to Ace an Interview (and Actually Enjoy It)

How to Ace an Interview (and Actually Enjoy It)
2:13

Let’s be honest: interviews can be nerve-wracking. You sit there, heart pounding, wondering if you’ll forget your own name the moment they ask, “So, tell me about yourself.” But fear not! With some preparation and confidence, you can rock any interview that comes your way.

Do Your Homework

Before you step into that meeting room (or log on to Zoom), do some solid research on the company. Check out their website, read recent news articles, and have a grasp on what they do. This effort shows genuine interest and helps you tailor your answers to their values and goals. For guidance on conducting this research, consider these interview preparation tips.

Rehearse, Don’t Memorize

We all want the perfect response, but sounding too rehearsed can come off as robotic. Instead, think of key points you’d like to cover—your relevant experience, strengths, and examples of success. Practice with a friend or record yourself. Aim for clarity and authenticity rather than memorized scripts. The STAR method is a useful framework for structuring your answers.

Share Real Stories

When an interviewer asks those classic questions, “What’s your greatest strength?” or “Tell me about a challenge you overcame,” don’t be afraid to show personality. Use real-life examples that showcase your skills and highlight what makes you unique. Storytelling adds color to your interview and makes you more memorable.

Embrace the Nerves

Feeling jittery is totally normal. In fact, a bit of adrenaline can heighten your focus. Take a deep breath, smile, and remind yourself that you’re there because the company already sees potential in you.

Ask Thoughtful Questions

Interviews aren’t one-sided. Prepare a few questions proving you’ve researched and are genuinely curious about the role. For example:

  • What are the company’s biggest priorities right now?
  • How does this role contribute to the company’s overall goals?

This preparedness is your chance to figure out if the company is a good fit for you, too!

Finally, remember that every interview, whether you land the job or not, is a learning opportunity. So, get prepared, be yourself, and trust that you’ve got what it takes.

All the best!
